Understanding the Value of Pre-Construction

Nick and I have been working hard for roughly four months on a pre-construction course for contractors interested in leveling up their business. It does not matter if you are a one-man band or a larger company, this course can be integrated into your business. We picked this as our first course topic because it’s been the most transformative part of our businesses over the years. Honestly, it’s been a game-changer in terms of profitability and client satisfaction. Nothing has impacted my business more dramatically and positively than offering pre-construction services and the systems that go along with it.

Looking back over my fourteen years in business, I can nail down two things that have really driven my success: offering a comprehensive pre-construction package and using a time-and-materials (T/M) pricing model that matches these services. Both of these things go hand in hand. Unfortunately for me, these changes didn’t happen overnight. It took me a good five years to nail down these systems, learning from my own mistakes. This course brings together our combined experience to give you the tools to get there faster, with a full breakdown of the processes, examples, and even PDF templates you can tweak to fit your style.

We will dive deeply into why you should be charging for pre-construction, walking you through critical planning steps like site analysis, feasibility studies, and detailed budgeting. We also tackle client communication strategies, so you’re set up to align expectations right from the start. It’s all about preventing those costly surprises later by getting clear on scope and budget upfront. We also spend a considerable amount of time educating you on how to find your ideal client using marketing, demographics, and psychographics. There is a very specific client who values these services, and we want to help you position and differentiate yourself within a highly competitive market.

Ultimately, this is more than just a course; it’s a guide to turning pre-construction into a profitable, value-adding service for your business. You will have the tools, knowledge, and skillset to set yourself apart and focus on your ideal client. For an average kitchen remodel you will recoup your investment a minimum 2x on the first project. Larger projects could be 10x and up! You will not only leave with more money in your pocket, but you’ll walk away with practical methods to refine your planning, build trust with clients, and make projects run smoother and more profitably. If you’re ready to make pre-construction a key part of your offerings, this course gives you everything you need to get started.
